David is an accomplished storyteller and an innovator in presenting mathematical information in engaging ways, using humor and a wealth of visuals to inspire and inform. David customizes his presentations to audiences from early primary through secondary school grades. He also does workshops and keynote presentations for education professionals. Children and adults learn, laugh, think, and howl with delight!

Grades K-3 (45 minutes)
With props, photos and storytelling, the author of over 50 books talks to young children about his lifelong love of numbers, science and books. He draws upon several of the books he has written to provide a varied, quick-paced introduction to himself and his work.

Storytelling: Supergrandpa
Grades K - 3 (20 - 30 minutes)
The heartwarming true story found in David's book offers a lesson for all generations, told to spellbound audiences with warmth, character and suspense.

The Storycrafter's Art
Grades 2-6 (30 - 45 minutes)
Where do the ideas for stories and books come from? How does an author make a story come alive? David shows how authors, including the young authors in his audience, can turn real events into compelling stories.



 


Think Big: Workshop on Big Numbers
Grades 4-6 (45-60 minutes)
After the featured assembly, your students will be ready to tackle some BIG problems. In this mind-stretching, interactive session, David presents exponentially more sophisticated mathematical challenges, tailored to the academic level of the group.


Nature's Numbers: The Math/Science Connection
Grades 4-6 (45-60 minutes)
While projecting magnificent photographs from his books, David illustrates the many ways that math and science go together to give us a better appreciation of nature.

"Look Once, Look Again" Science Presentation
Grades 1-3 (30-45 minutes)
A delightful science presentation that draws upon David's "Look Once, Look Again" science series, using the entertaining guessing-game format found in the books.


Math, Science and a Love of Books
Middle or High School Grades (45-60 minutes)
David's slide talk for secondary school students shows how science, math, writing and books come together in real life, and how he has integrated them in his career as a magazine journalist and children's book author. Presentation may include age-appropriate mathematical explorations that dramatically reinforce his points.

For Parents and School Age Children (45-60 minutes)
David shows how numbers enrich our lives. He treats families to delightful storytelling, and talks about the connection between stories and numbers.
